Got up, got dressed, drove 40 minutes, paid to park, went through security, sat in a room with minimal AC and waited with about a hundred other citizens doing their civic duty . About 9:10 the bailiff came out to say that the case was not going to trial and we were free to go. However, we still had to check in with her to prove we were there, and the list of names she had was not in alpha order. Had they let us check in when we arrived, it would have avoided the line to leave. Anyway, minor inconvenience, and I’m off the hook for a few more years. H opefully.

I’ve only been called for jury duty once so far...and it was in Arizona shortly after I moved back to Wisconsin, obviously I was dismissed.

Once you are on the list they will call you every single year. Ask me how I know....

As a stay-home dad, I could always use my kids to get out of it. I think I did that two or three times. But the cutoff age is 12, and the younger ones are now 13. So I had to go.

My wife has been called a couple of times, and sat on a jury for an insurance fraud case many years ago. But she hasn’t gotten a summons in probably 10 years.

That was my fear. I had to set aside 7 working days, but since we got sent home that completed our service.

I got on the list in sacramento county and after than I was screwed, every damn year I got called. The court house in in down town and the parking situation is terrible.

There is a garage next to the courthouse, but it’s not very big. They suggest you take a bus, or park on the street. They won’t reimburse you for parking, but if you get a ticket for an expired meter they will fix it. So I guess you just park on the street and ignore the meter, or put in the smallest amount possible to get the window sticker.

I’ve only ever been called once but I hadn’t lived in that state for like... six years. They didn’t seem to know what to do about that when I called to tell them I wasn’t coming.

Glad yours was an easy process.

I wasn’t concerned since I got my salary and I hated my job. It ended up being a nice brake from my job, if that tells you how much I hated it. I was also thinking about returning to the oilfi eld at that time; had a couple offers.

I was all prepared to go but the system here they text you the night before every day for a week if you need to show up. Luckily there weren’t enough cases for me to show up and I fulfilled my civic duty for 2 years by doing absolutely nothing.

It’s possible that they didn’t find out until this morning that the case wouldn’t go to trial, but I bet they knew it last night. We had to call two hours before our time, and they could have told us then. Of course, we also had to prove that we showed up, so maybe that’s why they had us come in. Still, the process could be streamlined.

Just got a summons, have to call on Friday to see if they need me to come in on Monday. Hoping I’ll get called in just to get released - working for a small company I really don’t want to miss a week of work.

I’ve gotten notice of jury duty thrice in the past 13 years. I only had to show up once. I spent the day sitting through jury selection, having been sat in the alternates pool pretty quickly. Lunch was actually pretty tasty. That afternoon I was informed that I wouldn’t be involved in the case at all and should report back to the pool the next day. I wasn’t called into the courthouse for the rest of the week.

I realized the following week that I completely forgot to get reimbursed for lunch.

My food allergies are severe enough that I cannot possibly serve on a jury. My last summons was dismissed after I had my doc write a supporting statement about my food issues. I am hopeful I was simply removed from the pool entirely.

You’d be surprised how many cases won’t settle until the people actually are at the courthouse the day trial is supposed to start . Especially personal injury cases because the lawyers don’t pay any attention to the case until the last minute. Plus the judges usually put the strong arm on the parties as they are sitting in the courtroom waiting for the potential jurors to show up. I always felt that the parties should be required to pay the jurors a fee if they wait until the last second to settle.
